[ Black Hills Photo Gallery - Central Hills - The Black Hills Central Railroad - The 1880 Train] The Black Hills Central Railroad follows the same route that was laid out to service the mines and the mills during the 1880s by the CB&Q Railroad. The ride is a 20 mile journey between the towns of Keystone and Hill City. One of the locomotives has appeared in "Gunsmoke", "Orphan Train", and "Scandalous John". All of the locomotives now burn oil instead of coal to reduce soot emissions as well as reduce the risk of forest fires. Visitors can board the train at either end of the route.
