[ Black Hills Photo Gallery - Devil's Tower National Monument ]

Devil's Tower National Monument located in Northeast Wyoming, is the USA's first national monument. It was dedicated in 1906 by Teddy Roosevelt. The tower is the core of a volcano that has been exposed by years of erosion. The boulders located around the base of the tower are bits and pieces of the tower that have broken off throughout the years. A one and one-quarter mile path is available to walk around the base of the tower, and it features several marked points of interest along the way. Devil's tower is probably most famous for being one of the settings for the 1978 movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

All the pictures are of the tower and the surrounding areas taken at different spots along the trail around the base of the tower.
