[ Black Hills Photo Gallery - Mt. Rushmore - 4th of July Celebration, 2000] The Independence Day Celebration at Mount Rushmore is an event that must be attended. It encompases an entire weekend of shows, bands, demonstrations, and is highlighted by a fireworks display like no other. This particular year the fireworks display actually occurred on Monday, July 3, but that didn't seem to matter. Some 20,000+ people were on hand at the monument and countless others lined up along the highway to view the fireworks display. This image was taken sometime during the day on July 3, 2000. The following several pictures are of the fireworks display as it progressed. This picture was taken shortly after the fireworks show ended and it includes the Mountain all lit up with the huge spotlights.
