[ Black Hills Photo Gallery - Mt. Rushmore National Memorial ]

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is the most visited attraction in the Black Hills. No vacation to the Black Hills would be complete without a stop at this world-famous attraction. It started as an idea in the 1920's and was marked complete in October 1941, on the day before the United State's entry into World War II. Located on a 5,725 foot mountain named for New York laywer Charles E. Rushmore, it was dedicated by President Calvin Coolidge in 1927. Recent remodeling of the facilities at the monument has resulted in a great place to spend the day. The visitor's center features an interactive historical journey through the formation of the monument, as well as trained personnel who are there to answer any questions that may arise.
