[ Black Hills Photo Gallery - Northern Hills - Bear Butte State Park ]
Bear Butte is not a flat-topped mountain as its name implies, but it is a
lone mountain located along the northern edge of the Black Hills. The
mountain is a sacred location for many native americans in the area. Two
hiking trails, as well as Bear Butte Lake, provided many activities. A two
mile hike will take you to the summit where you are provided a breathtaking
view into four states.
The park is located east of Sturgis on Highway 34 and north on Highway 79.
In respect to the religious and sacred nature of the area, the park is
open for day use only, from 8am to 7pm.
