[ Black Hills Photo Gallery - Northern Hills - Bear Butte State Park ] Bear Butte is not a flat-topped mountain as its name implies, but it is a lone mountain located along the northern edge of the Black Hills. The mountain is a sacred location for many native americans in the area. Two hiking trails, as well as Bear Butte Lake, provided many activities. A two mile hike will take you to the summit where you are provided a breathtaking view into four states. The park is located east of Sturgis on Highway 34 and north on Highway 79.
