The D.C. Booth Historic Fish Hatchery was founded by the federal government in 1896, making it one of the west's oldest. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Located on the grounds is the actual operating hatchery where rainbow and brown trout are hatched and raised. There is also the Historic D.C. Booth House and the Hatchery Museum. Visitors to the fish hatchery enjoy feeding the fish and touring the buildings.

The grounds of the fish hatchery are open all year. The buildings are open during the summer season. The hatchery is located just three block from downtown Spearfish.
